On-page vs. Off-page

SEO is the technique of increasing the popularity of a website. If you want your website to be visited by many visitors, you need to highly optimize it. The optimization comprises of both- On page and Off-page. On page concentrates on your own website’s content and Off page works to increase its visibility on other sites.

Many companies (even SEO companies) believe that on page is more important and off page doesn’t really affect the popularity. There is a debate on this going on everywhere. No-one knows what is the truth- which one is more important?
The possible answer could be that nothing can be done alone by a single technique. A combination of one or more is required. It is true that search engines crawl a website and give rank in the search result depending on its content and description. Better the website appears, higher would be the rank. But, that is not all. To get a higher rank, you need to have high inbound links. If you have many outbound links, but no inbound links, it would mean that your website isn’t quite good enough and you would not get a good rank.

It's basically the effort of the specialists- both on page and off page, that a website gets more visitors. A link to your site would increase the visibility and the content on the site would increase the traffic. A good content, if not optimized, would mean nothing. The same way, bad content won't keep visitors interested and they will immediately bounce to the other site. Bounce rate will be high and rank will go down.

Seeing the importance of off-page, many SEO companies have now come up with a separate off-page specialist department and this is going to be an increasing trend in the SEO business.

  1. Off-page activity is necessary once you through with your On-page activity.
